TECHNICAL BULLETIN: Aftermarket backing plates and tool modification
ATTENTION MOUNTING A NON-OEM BACKING PLATE OR MAKING TOOL MODIFICATIONS CAN ALTER THE BEHAVIOR OF THE TOOL, WHICH TRANSLATES TO A CHANGE IN PERFORMANCE AND MAY CREATE UNSAFE STRESSES TO INTERNAL COMPONENTS. MODIFICATIONS TO BACKING PLATES AND/OR MOUNTING HARDWARE CAN CAUSE INCREASED VIBRATION, ADDITIONAL COMPONENT STRESS, AND POTENTIALLY FAILURE OF THOSE COMPONENTS.
RUPES ENGINEERS APPLY INCREASED CONSIDERATION TO BALANCING THE ORBITING COMPONENTS OF RUPES TOOLS, THEREFORE THE COUNTERWEIGHT, BACKING PLATE, AND PAD ARE CONSIDERED AS A SYSTEM AND BALANCED UNTIL OPTIMAL RESULTS ARE ACHIEVED. ANY ALTERATIONS TO THIS SYSTEM CAN CAUSE AN IMBALANCE RESULTING IN AN INCREASE OF VIBRATION THAT CAN LEAD TO THE PREMATURE FAILURE OF THE TOOL’S INTERNAL COMPONENTS, WHICH IN TURN CAN CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY TO THE OPERATOR AND/OR DAMAGE TO NEARBY SURFACES.
AREAS HIGHLIGHTED IN RED INDICATE COMPONENTS WHICH EXPERIENCE INCREASED STRESS WHEN NON-OEM ACCESSORIES OR BACKING PLATE MODIFICATIONS ARE USED WITH THE BIGFOOT POLISHING SYSTEM. RUPES CANNOT BE HELD LIABLE FOR DAMAGE OR INJURY ASSOCIATED WITH OR CAUSED BY THE MODIFICATION OF A TOOL FROM FACTORY SPECIFICATIONS.
